When Terry George and Michael Rothwell first opened the doors to their new bar Fibre in the year 2000, no one could have anticipated the important impact it would have on Leeds’ nightlife. Billed as a ‘gay-friendly’ place to have a night out in the city, partygoers immediately began flocking to Fibre, as it bridged the gap between the more traditional LGBTQ+ bars in the area and the straight venues - where not everyone was made to feel welcome. Going through numerous refits, Terry and Michael have worked hard to ensure every part of their bar is perfect for their guests - from the always cutting-edge decor to keeping up-to-date with the latest equipment, Fibre has consistently been at the top of its game. Now in its 23rd year, the ‘dream team’ business partners began reminiscing about their success, and started sorting through the thousands of photos that have been taken in the venue - dubbed the ‘Home of House’ music - over the years. It is then that they decided that a fitting tribute to Fibre would be to immortalise it in this book. Across these pages, you will find hundreds of images that encapsulate the essence of Fibre; as well as interviews with the amazing drag queens, DJs, patrons and punters who have worked tirelessly over the past two decades to make the bar the place it is today. So sit back, and enjoy the journey of Fibre- from its inception, right through to the present day…
